Spurgeon McClendon, 19, a black man, was shot in the 1400 block of W. 28th Street, and died at 3:32 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. McClendon was a passenger in a car traveling near USC when strangers in another car began following them.
After trailing McClendon's car a short distance, the suspects began firing. McClendon was hit. He died at California Hospital. Police said his assailants may have thought he was someone else. There is a $50,000 reward for help catching this killer. Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD's Southwest Division at (213) 485-6571.

I've known Spurgeon since we were in elemantary, i was in 2nd and he was in 3rd...unthinkable, that someone you know and have a ton of love for can be taken away in such a horrible way. God bless his family and may he RIP.

Spurg!! Is what i called him. I met him while at Gardena HS.. Playing football with my son. Man!! This hurt me so bad, it's bringing tears to my eyes writing this. I was at Gardena everyday during practice. You were also like my son..Lots of GOOD MEMORIES.. RIP!! Baby!! Boy.. You'll never be forgotten. Lil!! Chris's Dad!! Bert

sometimes I find myself laughing about the time you all came down and you peed outside in the neighbors yard you were so young and funny as hell I really miss you a lot I hope you,grandma,pawpaw,uncle mike,uncle jr.,grandma mable,uncle pete,and kayla are behaving up there because I know you and mike is tripping I love you all dearly

You really crossed my mind today. I miss u. I worked with Spurgeon at the target in Carson by the mall he was cool, definitely a ladies man he was funny and was friendly to everyone their were some haters but he still was cool he was in the top flight car club he has a white honda civic with lamborghini doors and rims he was young and ambitous and an all-around great guy. Myself and 2 other people were the only ones that truly represented him from target its so sad they hated him that much to not pay their respects he's gone forever they will regret it Love u Spurgeon u know who was there for u RIP Spurgeon

To the family of Spurgeon I am so sorry foe your loss. We worked at carson target and I did attend the funeral I hope u all r getting better day by day he will live forever in our hearts and will forever be missed I am on facebook my bday is july 23 1978 I pray for u all continuously he was such an amazing guy I hope his brothers r hanging n there too and just remember he is always with them as well as all of us looking down over us and smiling
at us I'm so sorry more workers from target didn't represent and the target stores don't even have a memorandum of him in the store so sad
