Travis Patterson, 31

Died Jan. 15, 2011

Travis Patterson, a 31-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Jan. 15, in the 1700 block of East 111th Place in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Patterson got into an argument with another man about 12:40 a.m. and challenged him to a fight, said LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. Ernie Mendoza, who is handling the case.

The man left the area then returned with a gun and shot Patterson several times, police say. Paramedics were called and he was taken to a hospital in Lynwood where he died at 2:10 a.m., coroner's records show.

Mendoza said investigators have not made an arrest and do not have a description of the assailant. At this time, it's unknown if the shooting was gang-related, he said.

Anyone with information about the death of Travis Patterson or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact Det. Mendoza at (213) 485-4341. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
