Ricky Duran Nelson, a 40-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Oct. 1, in the 900 block of South Prairie Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this post, based on information from the coroner's office, identified the victim as an unknown black male.]

Nelson was found shot on the ground about 7:45 p.m., said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Authorities were called and the victim was taken to a hospital where he died at 8:27 p.m.

The coroner's office had no other information about the case.
