Vicenson Edwards, a 24-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Sept. 16, near Pacific Coast Highway and Figueroa Street in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Harbor Area patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting at about 5:50 p.m., according to an LAPD news release. When they arrived at the location, they discovered Edwards in his car. He was shot several times and unresponsive, police said.
Paramedics were called and Edwards was taken to Kaiser Hospital in Harbor City where he was pronounced dead at 8:13 p.m., according to coroner's records.
Investigators believe Edwards was driving his 1994 White Chevy Caprice west on Pacific Coast Highway approaching Figueroa Street when an unknown man driving a white car pulled up next to him.
At that point, police said the suspect in the white car pulled out a gun and shot Edwards numerous times and then drove away. The suspect(s) and car are currently outstanding.
Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact Harbor Homicide Det. Brian Gasparian or officer Fernando Rivas at (310) 726-7882. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

Black man in a Caprice, driving through Wilmas territory, not very smart!

— Meck, and how come black men are supposed to know to not drive there?

Really? Not supposed to drive there? He was a student and football player at Los Angeles Harbor College. How else was he supposed to get there?

syscom3 - Well, they're not supposed to know, really, because you should be able to drive anywhere you like, without worrying about people shooting at you. But you should be aware of what areas to stay away from. For example, common sense tells me not to cruise through Crenshaw and Slauson. I know that area is full of black gangs, and me, being a young Mexican male, I'm considered a target. Who knows why he got shot. This is why I read the HR and the rest of the crime section. So I know what areas in Los Angeles I need to stay away from. But being in L.A. for much of my life, I'm pretty sure of how this story goes. This is the near the area where those 2 young gang members from 204th Street killed the young black girl.

@ syscom its a realistic yet stupid unspoken stereotype of being black and riding in a caprice in certain neighborhoods. HELL any neighborhood at that. When I was living in LA when I saw a caprice I automatically assumed the person either affiliated was or had been involved in some type of "thug" lifestyle. I myself have NEVER considered getting a caprice just bc of the attention it could bring. Heck its bad enough driving a "low key" car in la without gettin banged on. let alone a car that is often times associated with gang banging. Not to mention he was driving that car in a known gang area where thugs probably dont follow the same thought processes as most citizens and he got shot. UNFORTUNATE but thats how it is out there

meck, your way of thinking has gotten more people killed than gang violence itself. That method of thinking known as ignorance...
Sept. 29, 2010 at 1:39 p.m.
— big _tc - Why is it ignorance? I just finished saying that you should be able to drive anywhere at anytime. Now actually doing it is not very smart. Why would, say a white guy, roll through Watts? Not a good idea. That's all I meant. Maybe you should read through my entire post before you comment on it, Einstein!! YOU'RE THE IGNORANT PERSON, for not accepting the fact that there's just some places you don't go through, in Los Angeles. MY METHOD of thinking has kept me from appearing on this report.

The word on the street wimas didn't do it .....as for driving a caprice...I owned two of em... a dark blue 89 brougham all stock from the orignal owner...and an 87 landau coupe lowrider.....and let me tell you I'm in my late 20s and I grew up when these cars were new and loved them...people tend to buy cars they liked as kids... ie I'm on my 10 vw bug as we speak...and I had two caprices caddies..and other cars...as for my blue 89 caprice brougham....THAT WAS A MAGNET FOR ALL KINDS OF ATTENTION...MOSTLY BANGERS AND THE POLICE...... once I was drivng in my blue 89 caprice down figuerora in south central from vernon all the way down to el segundo to get back to long beach I was being banged on no lie every few blocks guys were throwing up gang signs and stuff...I always got that..and I got stopped by the police mutiple times monthly... for trivial stuff but 9 times outta 10 they cut me loose after they figured out I never been to jail and I work at a high school , 90 percent of the cops who stopped me where polite and professional..so I really didn't mind. It was business as usual as for me and the police ...but I drove in wilmas hood at night in my caprice many times and I'm black and I never got shot....one more thing....at night at a red light most people didn't pull up next to me in my caprice..they stayed back till the light turned green...but the thing is most drive bys don't happen from g rides ( american cars from the 80s till mid 90s) that's a myth to the fullest
