Died Dec. 2, 2011

Wilbert Gaitan, a 25-year-old Latino , was fatally shot Friday, Dec. 2, in the 2700 block of West 11th Street in Pico-Union, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a shooting call about 8:45 p.m. and found Gaitan on the ground with several gunshot wounds, according to an LAPD news release.

Paramedics were called and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives learned at the time of the shooting that two Latinos were seen running from the area. They then got into a green compact import car and drove away, officials said.
