William Ramirez, 22, a Latino man, was shot in the head at 8426 South Long Beach Blvd. in South Gate and died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, March 2.
Detectives said Ramirez and a companion were in driving in a car when suspects in a green Dodge Intrepid attacked them, shooting into their car and striking Ramirez. Neither Ramirez nor his companion was a gang member. Detectives say they don't know why the attackers turned on them. Ramirez was a construction worker who had been in the country for only a couple of years, said Sheriff's Sgt. Todd Anderson.
