Wilmer Flores, 33

Died Nov. 19, 2010

Wilmer Flores, a 33-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Nov. 19, in the 8300 block of Lurline Avenue in Winnetka, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a shooting call about 2:15 p.m., according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release. When officers arrived, they found Flores lying unconscious on the floor, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics were called and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, homicide detectives identified the alleged shooter as the victim's uncle, Julio Cesar Garcia Flores, a 52-year-old Latino. Authorities said they believe Julio Flores pointed a loaded shotgun at his nephew and shot him before fleeing.

Detectives followed several leads as to the whereabouts of Julio Flores and on Nov. 20, he was found in the Hollywood area, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to contact LAPD Devonshire Division Dets. Humberto Fajardo or Ruben Arellano at (818) 832-0609. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
