Zacarias Coronado, 50 [Updated]

Zacarias Coronado, a 50-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Imperial Equestrian Center in the 5500 block of Leeds Street in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Coronado was found shot several times inside his home by another resident at the center, said sheriff's homicide Det. Margarita Barron, who is handling the investigation.

Authorities were called and Coronado was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:59 a.m., according to coroner's records.

No arrests have been made in connection with his death.

[Updated at 4:30 p.m., Aug. 12: At the time of his death, Coronado was working as an electrician for Imperial Yard Flood Maintenance, a public works facility.

It's located next door to the Equestrian Center. He rented a room at the center to stay close to work, said public information officer Mike Kaspar.

Coronado had been a public works county employee for the last eight years, Kaspar said.

An e-mail sent to employees by Gail Farber, Los Angeles County's public works director, said “Zack was an outstanding employee and a good electrician, who was well-liked and well-respected by his coworkers. He was known as a family man, dedicated to his five children who were the joy of his life.
