Scott came to the Lakers on the backside of a well-traveled career that had its share of success — he won a championship as a Celtic in 1976 — and significance — Scott was the first African American scholarship athlete at the University of North Carolina.

His stay with the Lakers was short, as he played in 48 games, averaging 11.7 points. He was traded in June 1978 to the Denver Nuggets for two
1979 draft picks. If you’re wondering, neither of those picks turned out to be Magic Johnson. The Lakers got Ollie Mack and Mark Young for Scott.
