Lovelette was one of the first big men to use the one-handed shot, which extended his range and forced the other team's big man to play outside and not just camp in the lane.
He was a key member of the Lakers' 1954 title team and averaged 17.2 points per game in his four seasons with the team. He went on the play a key role in two Boston Celtics title teams and was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame in 1988.
