Selected fourth overall by Phoenix in the 1972 NBA draft, Calhoun was shipped to Los Angeles in November of 1974 in exchange for two future draft picks. The 6-foot-7 forward played parts of two seasons with the Lakers, playing a supporting role behind Cazzie Russell and Happy Hairston. Despite seeing increased playing time during the 1975-76 season, Calhoun’s numbers did not improve and he was waived by the team in the off-season. He played the next two seasons in Portland, helping the Trail Blazers win the 1976-77 NBA title.
