After 10 seasons in the NBA, Jones played the last 32 games of his career with the Lakers, averaging 4.9 points and 3.6 points per game in the 1982-83 season.

Jones was the leading scorer and rebounder on the 1972 Olympic men's basketball team that lost the gold-medal game to the Soviet Union. Jones was ejected from the game after an altercation with a Soviet player and wasn't around for the controversial conclusion of that game.
