Drafted out of Washington by the Lakers in the third round of the 1977 NBA draft, Edwards played 25 games with the Lakers before being traded to the Indiana Pacers. He finished his rookie season sixth in the NBA in personal fouls (89 of his 322 were with the Lakers) and ninth in turnover percentage (57 of his 169 with the Lakers).
After winning a pair of NBA championships with the Detroit Pistons, Edwards eventually returned to the Lakers for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. He later won another league title with the Chicago Bulls in 1995-96.
Nicknamed “Buddha” and known for his Fu Manchu mustache, Edwards finished his 19-season NBA career with 14,862 points and 4,042 personal fouls (11th all-time), including 299 as a Laker.
