A 6-foot-4 guard who scored 1,001 points at Southern Illinois, Nate Hawthorne played 33 games for the Lakers after being picked in the seventh round of the 1973 draft. He would later play in the NBA Finals with the Phoenix Suns in 1976 before his career was cut short by injury. He became a businessman in Arizona and died of a massive heart attack at age 54 in 2005.
