A three-sport athlete at Morehead State, Steve Hamilton averaged 4.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in his two NBA seasons, both with the Lakers.

He had a lengthy career in major league baseball, mostly as a reliever with the New York Yankees. Although he pitched in the 1963 and 1964 World Series, Hamilton probably was most famous for the lobbed pitch, known as the Folly Floater, he developed later in his career.

Hamilton was athletic director at Morehead State from 1987 until 1997, when he died of colon cancer at age 62.
