The Boundary shown with Highland Park should be moved south to correspond with the ridgeline -- it would correspond with a what already feels like a natural boundary, and would include Eagle Rock High School, Occidental College and Eagle Rock Post Office. The western boundary should probably not extend beyond the Glendale Freeway, which acts as a pretty significant boundary. Othes suggesions to move that boundary farther east to correspond with the ridgeline are also good. In any case, the western boundary you've shown should definitely be reduced.
Thanks for the work LA Times, and thanks for letting us contribute!
