I was born there 94 years ago, on 56th street, when the palm trees were about 5 feet tall, and there were more vacant lots than built-on ones. And Vermont Ave. was dirt beyond Slauson. Went to Budlong Ave. School, John Muir Jr. High and Manual Arts. Picnicked at Exposition Park before the Coliseum. Played touch football with 5 other kids on the grass football field at the Coliseum. Nobody around to say "no". All gates were open. We just walked in. You want a history of early LA from a kid that grew up there? Ask me. LA was a paradise then. Arnold
