Reader comments on life in Broadway-Manchester

I estimate the majority of the families here have only been in this part of town for less than 40 years, and most new families aim to purchase homes and settle in. If we pay close attention, we would likely find the people here are striving to pick up the pieces from whatever challenge life handed them: poverty, addiction, gangs, immigration, crime, failure, whatever. They awaken each morning to live a good life, working hard to get by in a forsaken town, and trying the best they can to raise good kids in bad times. The kids come home from school and play with their electronics at home, some play on the street even next to commercial ruins left abandoned for nearly two decades. This younger generation might not have the same drive as their parents, but their ambition to modernize will take them and their families a long way. This neighborhood does have it's bad apples, just like any other neighborhood in any other city on Earth. Thievery has it's roots in either of the two flavors of addictive drug in this part of town; crack cocaine or crystal methamphetamine (the latter of which is spreading at an alarming rate). Violence pertains mostly to gang politics or drug deals gone awry, and is kept for the most part hidden in the middle of the night, when the good people here sleep. This neighborhood might be full of underdog stories, but will spawn many great characters in the story of the human race nonetheless. When you start this close to the bottom the only way to go is up.

It's Sad how these people live. and raise there kids to follow in there Foot steps. YES!!! you heard me correct.. They GANG BANG!!! and teach there kids to do the same. And want us to feel sorry for them..I feel sorry for the kids born to these people Because they did'nt have a chance at Birth. But as they grow and learn right for wrong. I don't feel sorry for them either. and these parents that has lost there control over there kids and there getting into gangs. if!! you love them like you claim you do. turn there butts in to DPSS or turn them over to the police and tell there crimes there doing. to save the people from them. and there GUNS, robing, BeaTINGS,and DEATH. that there planning for us. and by turning them in you might be saveing them from a life of crime, prison or death. and giveing them a New chance at life. to live a productive life and be somebody. Because i am a single Mother liveing right in los Angeles> and i don't keep company with anyone that don't have morals, or values.. and i raise my kids. and DON'T let my kids raise ME!!! I direct my kids in the right direction. I am involved. in there schooling. and they live by my rules.. they are NOT!!! allowed to interact with anyone NOT!!! liveing a constructive life.. I grew up im LA.. and I know what's out there. and i want better for my KIDS!! I WANT THEM TO BE SOMEBODY!!!! I DON'T let my KIDS walk no WHERE!!!
