Reader comments on life in Vermont Knolls

Recently read an article that there hadn't been a homicide in three years from west 85th street to west 73rd street between Hoover and Halldale. When I read that article it made me proud to live here and I felt somewhat at ease. That three year streak has been broken as of thursday 01/28/10 when a young man was gunned down on 78th street. Now I'm terrified for my children to play in the yard. The School system is poor, nearby Grocery stores stink with old rotting food. There are only fried chicken restaurants within a 3 mile radius. It makes you disgusted that this is all that's available to you. Sorry I didn't do my homework before purchasing a home in this area. It isn't that easy to just pick up and leave.
