Almost a year ago, we lost a beautiful person, husband, father, teacher, and mentor to so many people. Like many families, even though we only lived 30 miles apart, we didn't see each other enough. We got together on the holidays and once and a while for a birthday, but I realize now that it wasn't enough. He had such a great sense of humor, and could light up a room with just his smile or his quick wit. He was always optimistic, and one of the smartest people I knew. I'm sorry I didn't get to see him more and get to know him better. I still miss you, Uncle Ron, and I think about you a lot. To all who read this, if you haven't talked to your friends or family in a while, give them a call, write them a letter, even say hi on Facebook. Keep in touch with the ones you love because life is precious, fragile, and can be gone in an instant. I love you. This tradgedy just makes you want to wish that you could just wake up, to a beautiful day, but unfortunately this is not a dream. On September 14 all 1,000 pupil of RMS joyfully went to Period 2 at 8:00 AM. Little did we know what tradgc news we had in store. When the bell rang we all quietly (most(,if not all) of us weepingly) went to Period 3, then it came to us all. Its true that you dont know what you have until you lose it. Now we just wish we did. We all know very well that Roosevelt Middle School will never ever be the same. Mr. Grace will be missed by all of us. He will always be cherished in our memories. RIP Mr.Grace, you've done all f us a great deal of kindess, now youre in a better place. WE LUV YOU MR. I can't believe I didn't know about it until almost a year later. At the time of the accident I wasn't watching much TV and I didn't read up on any details of the crash. Finding out about it now just completely shocks me. I attended Roosevelt between 1992 and 1995 and I remember him vividly. I don't remember conversations with him because it was about 15 years ago, but I remember his presence and I remember the affect he had on students. He was always positive and had such a calm sense about him. I remember there were a few teachers that evoked intimidation and maybe a little fear :-), but not Mr. Grace. He was loving and kind. I can't believe he is gone. To his family, I hope this past year has been a year of strengthening. Again, so sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Brendali P.S. Mrs. Grace, you said in the comment on April 2nd that they will be dedicating a building in his name. Has that passed? When I heard what had happened to him, I couldn't believe it. I was pretty mad when I heard about the incident because it was all because the conductor of the metro train was "texting". It shows how stupid and not cautious people are. Rest in peace Mr. Grace. Everyone misses you and still talks about you until this day on. He was probably one of the funniest counslers. He was always there for everyone wow. He was litterally paralyzed and he'd play basketball every day after school, and work out. I remember I'd talk to him everyday at 5th period because I worked in the office. And wow, who could ever forget his act that he'd been a football player. We will meet one day again Mr. Grace... Whether or not i was close to him, personally he was an extraordinary man, and whether or not you knew him, he made an impact in many indivduals' lives. He was more than just a counselor, but a mentor who would you give full support, call out what your doing wrong, and much more. Throughout my 2 years at Roosevelt, he is on the few people who actually made a difference at my education over there. I remember exactly the first day I first met him. During an AVID interview at John Muir, a very energetic teacher called my friend and I out of the class and led us to the teacher's room interviewing us. There are many people will constantly come and go, but the many that leave, there are the few who will always leave a mark within your life. Ron was our land lord for a year and I never knew what he did for a living, but in the handful of conversations I had with him, we mostly talked about sports. One thing I noticed about Ron was how proud he was of his sons. His face brightened up so much when he spoke of them. Our prayers go out to the Grace family and the rest of the families affected by this sad tragedy. Live your lives to the fullest and never take anything for granted. Enjoy the company you keep. R.I.P, MR.GRACE Fri, 10 Oct 2008 07:31:30 -0700 Rob Carter on October 10, 2008 http://projects.latimes.com/metrolink-crash/name/ronald-g-grace/#c3656 http://projects.latimes.com/metrolink-crash/name/ronald-g-grace/#c3656 I began teaching at Roosevelt Middle School last year, and I remember Ron being one of the first faces that I saw as I began each day; as his office was the first thing I saw as I entered the school each day. It is still unnerving to walk up the stairway where I always used to greet him and Mark Brown (our former assistant principal) as I left at the end of the day. As I stumbled around the campus last year with the naivete of a new employee, I remember Ron as one of the people whose demeanor always made me feel like I had nothing to worry about, and that everything would be OK because I was a Rough Rider now. The funny thing is that although I never actually expressed any of my concerns verbally to him, Ron just had this uncanny way of knowing what you were feeling and reassuring you with this smirk that let you know that you just needed to relax and let the cards fall as they may. He was the living representation of "actions speak louder than words." I wasn't fortunate enough to have as many years to absorb his expert tutilage as my fellow colleagues, but the brief time that I did have to observe and learn from him left an impact that will always remain with me. It is only fitting that he worked for so many years at Roosevelt, because he was the living embodiment of the old adage, "Speak softly and carry a big stick"; although his stick was usually a baseball bat or a football. May God provide the Grace family with strength and conviction as they bravely endure these difficult times. Ron was an icon that will always be held in the highest regard, and the Roosevelt family will always be at your side when you need us.
