Crenshaw High School, like UTLA and LAUSD, cares more about protecting the salaries of incompetent administrators than it does about students. The bottom line is that there is no mechanism in place at Crenshaw to control student behavior (which is uniformly atrocious) or eliminate excessive absences. The net effect is that the troublemakers run the school and the students who want to get an education can't learn because of the chaos swirling around them. The situation at Crenshaw High School is a human rights violation.

I went to school there in the early 70's , graduating in 1973. I have stayed in the area since and have seen my three kids go the the school.. When I was there i screwed up and thought that a party was the better place to be..Bavk then skipping school and going to the beach was the thing to do amongst the friends that I had. Although I felt that I was smart my problem was that I thought that I was too smart and didn't need school..In my mind school was a waste of time. Now I know how stupid I was.Although I have been lucky in my life to suceed in that life school is what you put into it.San pedro High school is a good school. My kids ( one graduated from sphs and the other 2 are current students) have done well and are doing well at sphs. Its too easy to blame the school or the teachers for student failures when in fact the students themselves are part of the blame. As soon as we all figure out that a good education is not a given but something that we have to strive for. Its there , all we have to do is reach out for the opportunity that this school and our education system in general has to offer..The big percentage of our educators in this country are sincere in their work and are doing the best job they can under circumstances that we may or may not uderstand..Give them all a break and stop trying to find fault in places outside our homes.

Our son started Kindergarten at Glenfeliz this year. He comes home excited about what he learned that day, and eager to do his homework. Our family strongly supports public education, and we feel very fortunate to have a great neighborhood school just a couple of blocks from our house.

Mt. Lukens High School acknowledges the entire student and recognizes a holistic approach that understands that before one can attempt to help a student academically one must acknowledge the students background, history and entire well being before placing unrealistic expectations of academic success. FSC is a true model in what education is and should be. In addition to having a strong academic program, this school has managed to implement the program in an experienced based way so that the kids love to learn. My children don't want to miss a day of school ever!!! The curriculum is exciting and innovative. The field trips are remarkable. The older children just returned from spending three days on a sailing vessel where they actually worked, learned, and helped sail the ship. Talk about experience-based learning!!! The facility is big with a 3 acre field, gates, fences, plants everywhere. The have lots of art, PE, woodwork, community service, and best of all, they have an amazing committment to helping children socially and emotionally as well as academically!!! What's not to like?

Hey you guys can fight it. The charter thing is a scam to get rid of unionized teachers. Tell your parents and start your own protests, get signatures. Guess what this is your school. Go for it. I did back in the day and we ended up in the Governor office. We won what we were asking for too. This is not Russia, we own this place. You can do it.
