Six comments about Fairmont Preparatory Academy
I sent my son to Fairmont for only a year but pulled him from the school after finding the tuition too high, the discipline extreme (i.e. profit- motivated), and the teachers mostly average. There are a few shining instructors there (Cal and Katz, to name a few), but they are overshadowed by an incompetent administration that seems more interested in profit/protecting themselves from lawsuits than doing their best to help the children we entrust them with. Try Sage Hill... or another private school in the area. You'll get a lot more for your money.
Not a good school-definitley not worth 20k+! As a 12 year Fairmont parent, alot has changed at this school over the past 2 years. High turnover rate in the academic counseling department as well. Our son had 5 different counselors in just under 3 years! It is OVERLY strict too. Some good teachers-several military in their teaching style. Students are often not well rounded due to high educational demands. We had a very negative encounter with the Director of Discipline in which he made a negative comment to our son stating, "I don't care if your parents are happy here or not-if they sue Fairmont or not-these are the rules" and later-in front of the CEO of Fairmont-denied it! The CEO upheld his comment as well stating, "it was a misunderstanding!" We transfered our son to another private CP school after 12 years of being at Fairmont at 1/3 the cost. I would not recommend this school.
The school is definitely not worth the money. I graduated from it and am currently attending UCLA. There were some great teachers in the past, but they have all left. Even Mr. Cal, the "greatest math teacher ever", is nothing short of a military general. Who can't get a 5 on AP Calculus after putting in 6 hours/day? Take your money to Sage Hill School or something instead. It'll be better spent.
As a whole, good academic program, however varied staff performance- some great teachers, others are not. Although a good school, at times it is not worth the tuition
My son attends Fairmont Prep Academy, this is a fantastic school that strives for academic excellence, the teachers are all great and help all the students, the atmosphere is great.. they also are top rank in sports programs.
My son attends Fairmont Prep. Their whole thing is getting you ready for college. Tuition is well worth it ($16,800) a year. The teachers and staff are always ready to help the students! It's a great school!
