Two comments about Huntington Park Senior High

So many things are still happening with H.P. Now they want to break it up into 6 small schools. The district wants every single person who works at H.P.H.S. to reapply for their position in which only 50% of those teachers will be hired back. I see some improvement. Not drastic but nevertheless its an improvement. They need to give the High School more time. They can't expect it to change drastically and have those pilots they have in store. A reconstitute is not the way to go. There is a lack of parent involvement which makes it so difficult for the shcool to fight back. Parents really do need to get on board. This is their for their childrens education. They have the potential. Focusing on how they improved in areas should show the students and teachers are trying. Its sad to see that only a handful of parents show up to meetings and voice their concerns. We need to stand up for our children and make our voices heard.

Poor HP? We are now a Focus School, but it's not for a lack of trying. We are making slow, but steady progress despite a whipsaw effect of reforms being pushed upon us as solutions. Schedule changes, SLC's, Pilots, Small Schools, PLC's, all innovations which we were either encouraged or forced to adopt.

We have seen dozens of teachers opt for early retirement to escape what seems to us like persecution ramped up in an excruciating and never ending spiral.

Not all of our teachers are great, but many are or were. Now its time for the parents to join in the crusade to save our school.

The lack of participation of parents in the educational process has been a plague. Parent-teacher conferences are too poorly attended. It is encouraging to see so many concerned parents and community members (Council woman, Ofelia Hernandez) finally showing up at the meetings that may this time lead to a seed change in the performance of my dear school.

Let's hear it parents. Without you, all is lost! Let's do it together!
