One comment about Anthony G. Bacich Elementary

I would like to shed light on the apathetic, now spiteful administration that is the "Kentfield School District". Our 7 yr. old son was denied an IEP. He has had a multitude of independent testing done by various doctors that are developmental specialists in the field of occupational therapy, visual perception, behavioral and pediatrics. Thank God there are no behavioral issues. Occupational therapy was to be given to our son in Kindergarten. The teacher made the school administration and us aware of his problems. He was to receive assistance and never did. After being told that our son would fail First Grade and he was too BIG to repeat Kindergarten, my husband and I started looking for help. Our son cannot write letters or numbers and visual disruption also makes it impossible for him to succeed without some sort of intervention by a trained specialist. Our son is also suffering from moderate to sever asthma. He is now nebulizer dependent daily, making him unwelcome at Bacich. Since there is no nurse to administer a daily treatment during school hours, he cannot attend. In an attempt to have me DISENROLL our son, the principal and vice principal showed up on our doorstep with a sheriff for truancy. Next, they called social services. As if that weren't enough they started calling private schools in the area to see if we had enrolled our son. If we did enroll elsewhere, Kentfield would no longer be financially liable for any costs of education they will have to pay by law. I enjoy how all my calls to the Superintendent, Mary Jo Pettigrew end in, "So are you going to disenroll him now"? They and I both wish!! Harassment, bullying and I would say emotional extortion are just a few of the tactics used by one of the RICHEST counties in America (with over 13% of it's resident children diagnosed with disabilities). $ 1,000,00.00 in private annual donations (just to Kentfield) and unable/unwilling to morally distribute them. B.t.w., the occupational therapy office sits on the Anthony G. Bacich campus where our son spent his Kindergarten year. Why does this go on? Why won't they help us?
Before we lost our financial shirt, I would have just paid the $30K+ for the schooling and various therapies needed to help our son succeed in school. Now we are dependent on our civil rights being honored. Particularly the 14th Amendment. Many of us live in Marin because we can afford to, (blindly thinking our quality of life will be good) therefore; the likelihood of begging for money for your child to be educated probably doesn't come up as often as it should. Who wouldn't just write the check if they could? Everyone feels for the public schools. After you find out your child has disabilities that could affect his whole life, the last thing you want is to have more emotional devastation doled out by ignorant, self-serving trash.
