Four comments about Alexander Hamilton Senior High
my girls first year at hami i got high hopes for her i know and have her lots of nice things about this school and their teachers keep up the good work
Despite having to deal with LAUSD bureaucracy and his encountering a few poor teachers and administrators (who have since left the school), my son has received a good public education at Hamilton's Humanities Magnet (he's now a Senior and ready to graduate with a 4.0 average). Some of his teachers have been extraordinary, and the AP and music classes he's taken have been on a very high level. It sad there's not more money allocated for transportation to enable the musical groups to attend competitions and performances in other parts of the county and state (as exists for the athletic teams) .
My son's teachers by and large seem to be a cut above, and to take a sincere interest in expanding their students reasoning and logical thought process. I have been extremely impressed with the Humanities Magnet Administration as well.
The Humanities Magnet is a spectacular school with a number of teachers who are the best you will find anywhere (including most colleges). The learning atmosphere is dynamic, provocative and fun. It's strengths are literature, writing, philosophy, history and art history. It's weaknesses are math and science. For kids who love to read and write and have a true passion for learning and thinking, this school is a treat and its teachers a gift. My daughter crosses over to the music magnet to play in the jazz band so she gets the best of all worlds. I got her a math tutor to keep her math skills up, which is a drawback, but it's worth it. She is completely thrilled with four out of six teachers. My eleven year old can't wait to go there in three years!
