Three comments about Mar Vista Elementary
Not that this is relevant, but I attended school there from 1967 to 1971. I still vividly remember classes and the experience I had. The principal was Lorna Round (?). I also remember the air raid siren at the south east corner. Loved that sound! Thanks for letting me barge in!

I attended Mar Vista Elementary school from kinder-5th grade. The teachers were helpful and the aides always helped. I wish I was there again
My son went to mar vista elementary last year as a kinder. His teacher was Miss Jenny Mak. It was her first year teaching at the school. She had previously taught at another school third grade. She was very strict but amazing. My son was one of the most challenging kids in her room and he has an IEP... so he needs more help than a regular student. I found Mrs. Weinstock and Ms. Mak very involved and creative in thier approach to teaching. What I find interesting about the articles about the teachers is they don't mention any of the teachers aids. Mrs. Holly was so involved and was one of the reasons I think Ms. Mak was so effective, she would even call me at home to give me her thoughts about how to help my son be a better student. I think being a teacher is overwhelming and I dont know how they do it. That being said I think some teachers a burnt out and I love that you at the LA TIMES are exposing the teachers for their work ...good or bad.
