    Two comments about Ocean Charter

The whole student approach works well in the younger grades, but by grade 5, the curriculum is well behind other schools in writing, math, science, language arts. There is not only a lack of diversity in the student/faculty population - but for a school that embraces the "whole child" they are a cliquish bunch (students & parents) and I've seen horrible bullying and teasing of those deemed "different." I'm not impressed with the quality of the older students or the faculty or the curriculum, after grade 4.

While the school is not perfect it is constantly growing and improving. It is a young school so considering how long its been around it is truly amazing how for they have come. The school may not be as ethnically diverse as they would like but I find it to be incredibly diverse in other ways. There is plenty of culture, families who speak different languages, different religious practices, families with same sex parents, and families with grandparents raising the kids. I have seen bullying at this school because of how passionate the parents are about their child's "Waldorf" education but with every out of line parent there is at least 10 parents supporting and working hard to better the school and its community. Although like I said the school is not perfect I absolutely feel I made the right choice for my children and I feel grateful to be getting a private school education at a public school with no tuition.
