Samuel Gompers Middle

Gompers Middle School under the Leadership of the Mayor and the Partnership have only improved the physical appearances of the plant. PLAS is a group of educators predominantly from the San Diego and Inland Empire hired by Mayor Villaraigosa and Ramon Cortines. Under the PLAS young teachers were hired and the Principal Sonia Miller has no say so in running Gompers Middle School. All the decisions come from Dr. K. Mitchell, an outsider of the LAUSD. Dr. Mitchell and other administrators are making an exorbitant salary and the quality of education for the students comes last. The Partnership for Los Angeles School is a farce and all the people involved are raking up large salaries in their payroll, but the quality of education for the students is less desirable.

I am a teacher at Gompers Middle School, and I have full faith in the Mayor's Partnership for LA Schools. I am excited for the changes that I have already seen at school, and I am excited for what is yet to come. The Partnership worked really hard last year to prepare us for this school year, and I am confident that the condition that Gompers is in, can only get better. The data are no reflection of the intelligence of our students. The data don't show us how intriguing our students are, how passionate they are, how funny they are, and how creative they are. The data don't show us how much potential our students have. The only thing the data show us, is whether our students can take a test or not. Gompers has a brand new administration (practically), and has a wealth of new teachers and veteran teachers who are ready for a change, and who are ready to be a part in making that change happen. Have some faith in us please!
