The Times’ analysis used all valid student scores available for this teacher from the 2003-04 through 2009-10 academic years. The LA Times has once again decided to publish student test scores for a group of elementary LAUSD teachers. However, the newspaper has still not secured an evaluation of the tests themselves. With so much at stake, the paper must ensure that the results are valid evaluations of student mastery of the state standards. The Times needs to have the tests assessed by a team of independent experts. Until then, it is irresponsible to publish questionable data about the hard working teachers of our city.

 

The Times gave LAUSD elementary school teachers rated in this database the opportunity to preview their value-added evaluations and publicly respond. Some issues raised by teachers may be addressed in the FAQ. Teachers who have not commented may do so by contacting The Times.
