I had my doubts about him and the Marines, knowing how my son rebelled against authority. When he came back from boot camp, I was so proud. They took a punk kid and turned out a young man with a sense of honor.
— Ken Walker, father
Walker's family had a history of military service dating to the American Revolution. But as a teenager, Walker seemed to be on a different path. He loved literature and had a green Mohawk and a disregard for classroom discipline. In 1994, he surprised his parents by joining the Marines.

I Will Soar Again
With my back turned, you betrayed me
on a quiet peaceful day.
I was watching as the morning sun
cast colors across the bay.
Moments before your destruction,
my heart was quite at peace.
Then suddenly, without warning,
your attack was upon me.
All the feathers that have fallen
can never be replaced.
But of the ones that still remain,
have strength to honor their space.
For now, I wait. I watch. I heal.
With pride you could not contain.
For the one thing that is certain,
with courage!.I WILL soar again!
Being from the same background, Allen and I hit it off realy well. I was in 3/4 Weapons Company, HMG Platoon and got to know him well while stationed at Camp Schwab Okinowa (1996). He and I would remanence about the old punk rock days and how the Corps changed our lives. Allen was a senior NCO and was one of those who inspired me to become who I am today. While I was surfing the web tonight (on the 24th of Feb, 2009) I discovered that you had fallen. Allen, you are not forgotten! You are a true Hero, mentor and friend! Thank you for your leadership, guidance and service to our nation. May God bless your family and you... in Heaven. I'll see you at the pearly gates Marine! (Thanks for schooling me on CFF)
