A single shot doesn't worry us much. We worry when there is a series of shots.
    — Andre D. Tyson, reassuring a Times reporter in Iraq

Tyson was killed alongside Patrick McCaffrey in what the military initially told their families was an ambush by insurgents. Two years later, the military informed the families that the soldiers were actually killed by members of the Iraqi national guard who were on patrol with them.

Went through Officer Candidate School together and we were battle buddies during phase I and II. He was the guy you went to when you needed something done right. He is missed.

I grew up with Andre through High School and was surprise to see we both took the same path with the Military. I think of him often even more now that I am volunteering to deploy with the same unit that he was a asset to, My son wore his Football number #42 in honor of him for me and I wear my memorial bracelet to show my gratitude to him for being such a great person outside the military as well. It was a priviledge to know such a Great Person of his caliber. You are still truly missed my friend (Sir)I salute you!

Andre was a student of mine when I was teaching Officer Candidate School in San Luis Obispo. I was at his service at Riverside National Cemetery in 2004. Just thinking of you today Andre, a warrior who Gave All for us, you are not forgotton.

I worked with Andre for a while. He was truly a great guy. He was a dependable and loyal friend, and he was always a blast to have around. I'll never forgive Bush for sending him and all the others to Iraq based on massive lies and deceptions. All of that aside, Andre is a true hero, and so are all the others who served and are serving now. God bless him and his family.
