He was convinced he was doing the best for him, the family and the world.
    — Carlos Lopez, uncle

Rodriguez died March 12 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. In December 2009, Rodriguez enlisted in the Army, just days after his cousin, Carlos Alberto Lopez, also joined.

Five memories of Arturo E. Rodriguez

It was a shock to hear that he was gone. Arturo was a very sweet, soft spoken person. I had the pleasure of working with him for a short time and am very sad to hear this. May you be with God now, and may you rest in peace. We will always remember you.

May I first start off by expressing my condolences to you and your family of Private 1st class soldier Arturo Rodriguez. I am deeply saddend by your loss. Even though I never met your son, I have a great admiration for what he was there to accomplish. On behalf of Calvary Chapel Santa Fe Springs and myself we would like to extend a personal invite to our "Day to Honor"community festival where we come together as a community in the city of Santa Fe Springs and honor our Fallen Hero and their families. This community event would take place May 29th,2011. I will continue to ask the Lord to strengthen you and your family daily as you go through this difficult time.

To the Rodriguez Family, I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Even though I did not know Arturo personally, I could tell he was a special person just by him taking the initiative to serve America in the Airborne. I am proud of him for accomplishing this. May our God bless you with many comforts and wonderful memories of Arturo. He will always be remembered as a true American hero.
