She surprised the life out of me. I thought I was the brave one in the family. She turned out to be the brave, the tough, the best patriot of all of us. My little hero.
— Edmond Babayan, father and former Marine, speaking at her funeral.
The daughter of Armenian immigrants, she enlisted in the Army Reserve at 35 and lobbied to be sent to Iraq. She was only 5 feet tall and so pleasant and polite, that her fellow soldiers called her "Stuart Little" after the thoughtful little mouse in the children's story.

Thank you for your bravery, and the price you paid so we might remain free. My prayers go out to your family and friends and I thank you...One American

Just to correct one thing. Carla was actually married to my son Brendan. They were separated but remained very good and close friends.
She was my beautiful daughter-in-law and we love and miss her very much.
