He was seeing a lot of his friends dying, and he just didn't want to be there anymore. He's always been a strong guy, macho, who doesn't tell anybody that he's scared or nothing.... He was just waiting for his two more weeks of patrolling, then the last month was going to be just training the new Marines.

Orozco, a native of Colombia, was killed in Iraq before ever getting to see his infant son, Kenny Carlo. He called his son by the nickname Cabezon -- or "big head" -- after seeing his pictures.

I knew Carlos from the Marines. I was his squad leader in Iraq during his first deployment to Iraq in 2005. We became best of friends and talked every night and during patrols daily. We talked about how when we got out we would become police officers or CHP's and continue to make a difference. We talked about our families and our mission at hand. He really was one of the best men I have even known. I got out of the Marines in 2006 just after we got home from Iraq, we kept in touch as I moved back to the Bay Area and while he redeployed back to Camp Ashraf. He told me how bad it had gotten out there since we left and alls he wanted to do is just get home and be safe, he was sick of seeing his buddies die. I know the feeling all to well. I got a call on 9/11/07 from one of my other Marines who was also deployed again and he could barley get it out he was balling so hard, i knew the news couldn't be good. I miss him very much and feel for his family. RIP my brother much love.

I remember Carlos when I first go to 2nd battalion 9th marines. I was scared to be around all the senior Marines but Carlos was there to take me in under his wing. He would always say if any of these "egotistic Marines" ever bother you just give me a call and I'll come straighten them out. I served with him in Iraq in 2007. I remember him showing off pictures of his 3 month old son the day we went out on our patrol together. Thats one of the last things I ever heard Carlos say besides how much he misses and loves his family. I'll never forget that day nor any other day I shared with "Gilo" as we Marines would call him. R.I.P. Corporal Gilo Oorah and Job well done!

I had the pleasure of going through Marine Boot Camp with Carlos. He was always upbeat, even when things really sucked. He maintained a positive attitude and talked about his son every chance he got on Sundays or while we were "quietly" cleaning our weapons. Our paths separated after SOI in January of 2005, but I could tell that he was a natural born leader and going to make a great Marine from his attitude.

I was one of many close friends that's Carlos had. I remember when his girlfriend would come I would lend him my car so he can take her out till we went and bought the escalade he got. I'm actually trying to get in contact with his girl friend I new her from him and we lost contact after finding out he had passed away. Id like to meet his son and lend a hand in any way possible.
