He had every aspect of being a great soldier and great man.
— Kevin Taylor, friend and recruiter
Young worked hard to lose weight so he could join the Army, according to Kevin Taylor, who identified himself as Young's friend and recruiter in a posting on a tribute Web page. After his death, his mother told California Army National Guard officials that of the many things her son enjoyed, he loved football. Young was posthumously promoted from specialist to sergeant.

I too am a former graduate of Washington High and former Soldier. SGT Young, you make me feel proud that men like you stand up and serve, fight and die for this country. Your sacrafice will never be forgotten. I feel so dam honored to know that a Washington High General was there on the front lines when needed and you stood tall. You are definately a Hero.

Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice so that the people in America can continue living free. There are alot of people in this country that have no clue, respect or honor for those like you that paid the ultimate price to live the way that we do in America. Living free is not free, it comes at a very high price. You payed that price for the Country you loved. Although I never knew you Christopher, I thank you and honor you. God Bless you, Ronald Weber
