His joy of life, his smile, could light up a room. He just had a zest for life that was contagious.
— Bunnie Jacquay, mother
Legg had wanted to join the Army since he was a boy, but on his last home leave, in April, he spoke about plans for life after the military--of becoming a firefighter or emergency medical technician, of buying a house and of starting a future with his girlfriend.

9 memories of Cody

We are neighbors of Cody Legg's mother. He will be remembered in our hearts for what he gave...the ultimate sacrifice for his country. No one can give more in a more honorable way than he. God Bless and protect him on his journey and may God Bless and continue to protect his family in this time of sorrow. Semper Fi soldier.

Let He who gives up his life not die in vain, but be remembered. He paid the zenith price
God bless him and his family.
I will travel to the church and view the fjords and pray for him.

I met Cody when he was about 16 when he came down to visit his Dad. Dave and I coached a Pony league team together and Cody came to help coach his two younger brothers. I remember the respect Cody had for his Dad and the respect and "awe" that DC and Derek had for Cody.

"Hero's work at night so that those of us that are weak may sleep comfortably". Cody is the only hero I have ever met, and the American flag carries a new meaning to me and my family.

To Cody's family, girlfriend, and close friends,

I happened to come across the article in last Sunday's LA Times about Cody, and it touched a nerve. Maybe because I'm also 23 years old and I'm also from Southern California, like Cody was.

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Cody during his life. But to be honest, I don't know if I would have given him the respect that he deserved while he was still living.

Throughout high school and college, I was cynical towards athletes/ "jocks" and I inherently believed that people who went into the military after high school didn't have the grades, motivation or the financial resources to go to college instead.

But I realize how narrow-minded I have been.

Many people spend much of their lives searching for a sense of meaning, purpose, and satisfaction in their lives, but never find it. At the age of 23, Cody Legg found his true calling and found a sense of purpose and satisfaction in fighting for our country and saving the lives of others in his unit. Even in his "final act" he was trying to save the lives of fellow soldiers.

It is because of the greatest sacrifice Cody (and thousands of other American military) have made, that America and the world is a safer place.

No matter what you believe in -- Heaven, reincarnation, etc. -- there is no doubt that Cody has moved onto a better place now.

God give Cody's family, girlfriend, and close friends the strength to cope with his passing.

And on behalf of the millions of Americans who never had the honor of meeting Cody, R.I.P CODY LEGG..........A TRUE AMERICAN HERO.....God bless.

"When he shall die, take him and cut him into little stars. And he will make the face of heaven so fine, that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun."

I remember when I saw Cody's name on the CNN news scroll. Having known him since before tee-ball, I couldn't help but cry.

I served with Cody on the last 2 tours. He was a true Soldier, Great Friend, And an exemplorary American. I'd seen him a couple of days before this happened in the MWR. He had mentioned his leave and said how much he'd missed home. Not to mention he was Killed on my birthday.
