I always told him, 'Don't be a sheep, be a leader.' And he took that to heart. He did that in the Army. He did that in his life.

While he was stationed in Iraq, LeGrand's wife gave birth to the couple's second child. The baby girl, Kelsie, was 7 months old when he was killed. Her father never met her.

Two memories of Damon G. Legrand

He was a great man, and a very caring and loving person all around. He is deeply missed by all who met him. I will never forget all the wonderful times I got to spend with him.

Damon, You are in my heart forever.

When we were deployed it was always such a joy for me to see Legrand. He always had a beautiful smile on his face and was so genuine and sincere in his kindness. I never heard a harsh word out of his mouth from the first day he arrived at the unit. I always enjoyed the gentle strength that he had when dealing with myself and his peers.
