Benson was among 30 U.S. military personnel killed when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down by a rocket propelled-grenade in Wardak province, Afghanistan. Benson planned to reenlist for four more years and then leave the military -- he hoped to become a flight instructor.

Two memories of Darrik C. Benson

I will always remember you with a huge smile on your face. I will remember the fun we had playing flag football in Mr. Wolf's weight training class. Most of all, I will never forget the pride you took in defending your country, your family, and friends. Rest in peace my brother. You will never be forgotten.

I knew this man, when he was just a little boy. I remember how proud his grandpa was in 2004, as I can see he completed his desires and was useful to his country. I am sure his family are proud of him. rest in peace until Jesuschrist comes again my friend.
