    I never knew Derek, but I knew of him, in High School. I understand he was very popular and athletic, but not in that 'I'm better than you' kind of way. I do remember a kind of awe of his calm, determined presence when he was around. Again, I never really knew him, but he had a good vibe, and I'm sad to know he's gone.
