He told me he was over there to protect us from harm. He believed in what he was doing.
    — George La Bouff, brother

La Bouff dreamed of becoming a soldier from the time he was a boy running around his La Puente neighborhood in combat fatigues. He died a month before he was scheduled to return to the United States.

Five memories of Douglas A. La Bouff

Sad to hear the news. I knew Doug as an assistant coach on my JV football team at La Puente High School 89'-92' I too went into the Army right out of high school, to Ft. Benning.

Thank you for doing more for this country than I ever would have the personal bravery to accomplish myself. God bless you and those you proudly left behind.

I didn't know Doug personally but I did have telephone conversations with him. I enjoyed talking with him. Especially talking about his mother and also his nephew. You are missed...

Wow, I can't believe Doug died. I knew him growing up in La Puente and he was always a great kid and did bump into him a few times when we were older. I have to say he is the only person I personally knew to have this happen to. I'm shocked but definitely grateful to him and all our armed forces who are in harm's way to protect our freedooms we hold so dear to us. God rest his soul and may his family find sources of comfort in his passing as a real American hero.
