I was the happiest woman on Earth when he was around me.
— Carmen Elias, widow in San Gabriel Valley Tribune
Elias first came to the U.S. from Lebanon as a child and moved back and forth between the two countries, the Whittier Daily News reported. He was a fluent Arabic speaker who often helped translate for other American troops. He and his wife eloped eight months before he died.

I love you, and miss you. My Homie, we will never forget you. A quote from Gladiator Elias's favorite movie that fits my feelings..."You'll see them soon but not yet! Not yet.
