He was a very strong man, and very quiet, unless he really believed in something. And then he was very outspoken. His opinion was the right way. That's one of the reasons he went back after his first tour, because he really believed in the war. He had a hard time letting these young Marines, 18 and 19 years old, going over there without him being there.
    — Amanda Parkerson, widow

    Parkerson was killed during his second tour of duty in Iraq. He came home from his first tour the day after his younger son was born. His father served in the Marines in Vietnam.

    Dearest Harvey
    We never had the opportunity to meet in this life - but I look forward to meeting you in heaven. I feel like I know you somewhat for I have had the HONOR of meeting your Father who is a Marine, your Mother, both your Brothers who are Marines and your Sister and your handsome little boy. You have such a wonderful family - such a Proud Marine Family! You gave all....

    "When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,0

    When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,

    When the funds are low and the debts are high,

    And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

    When care is pressing you down a bit-

    Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

    Life is queer with its twists and turns,

    As every one of us sometimes learns,

    And many a fellow turns about

    When he might have won had he stuck it out.

    Don't give up though the pace seems slow -

    You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than

    It seems to a faint and faltering man;

    Often the struggler has given up

    Whe he might have captured the victor's cup;

    And he learned too late when the night came down,

    How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out -

    The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,

    And you never can tell how close you are,

    It might be near when it seems afar;

    So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -

    It's when things seem worst that you must not quit. "

    I just happened to come across this website and I believe Harvey was my second cousin. I knew his father quite well, but have lost all contact from this side of the family since my father's (Milton Parkerson)death. My love and prays are with his family.
