Gelig was a good friend and great person. He was always there for you when you needed something. He will be deeply missed by everyone in this unit, for a piece of us went with him.
    — David Tryon, paratrooper who served with Gelig

Gelig died March 1 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

Five memories of Ian T.D. Gelig

I served 15 months along side of SPC Gelig. I got the news today and it's sad to hear. He was always a nice man and he always had a smile on his face. You are truly missed and we appreciate your sacrifice. To the family you did a great job at raising him. I hope and pray that you can trust in God through this and know that He will guide you. Take care
