He was a deep thinker. He was well-read. He liked higher-level science-fiction novels and he also read philosophy. He would ask teachers about what they thought about certain aspects of life. He could be very thoughtful.
    — Lori White, high school teacher

Wilson was killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, when a roadside bomb exploded. His family told the Press Democrat that he had struggled with drugs and alcohol and joined the Marines to find a path in life. After Wilson's death, a medic who had tried to save his life wrote his mother: "Ma'am, Willie was really strong at the end and I prayed for him. We will miss him, but I know he's in a better place."

15 memories of Ivan I. Wilson

    Denise,
As i walk through this house that was once my parents I stop by the end of the kitchen floor. I remember my baby cousin spilling brown paint on the carpet. Of course the carpet was brown and that paint stayed there until my parents could pay to get the whole floor redone. We will miss Ivan and I know that grandma and grandpa will keep watch over him in heaven until we can all be joined once again.

Ivan was in my 8th grade science class back a few years ago. I remember him fondly as a student who was respectful in class, and who asked wonderful questions to which we had fun finding the answers! I am humbled that such a young man would give his life trying to help others in a foreign land have a better life, or to insure that we who are privileged to be here in the USA continue to have our freedoms. To his family my love and condolences. To his friends who really were true friends and tried to guide his choices the right way, thank you for being true friends.

    Fondly, Mrs. Chisam

No words can express the respect I have for your fallen Marine. I extend my deepest sympathies to your entire family. I hope you can take comfort in knowing how vitally important his mission was, and still is for our country. So many Americans take for granted the freedoms that we enjoy becuase of the sacrifices made by men like Ivan. His story needs to be told. In his short life he overcame incredible odds to ultimately accomplish more than many achieve in a life long-lived. God Bless Ivan and God Bless your family for allowing him to stand between us and those who wish us harm.

A new year has started, and as many look forward to what life may bring; I look backward to what life was like when you were here. Sad, that we must carry on, without you, even though you are in that joyous place we all think about. We wait for the sunbeams to shine through, for the wind to blow gently across our faces, and a chance to say "thanks" for protecting us. St. Michael must be smiling.

I didn't know this young man, but, see I have lived to 60 so far after joining the Military in the Vietnam war. I was lucky to have survived but I would go back in a second and stand and fight along side such a brave warrior as Ivan. God bless you brother & sons and daughters that are willing to stand tall and face unfortunately what can be the ultimate cost. I hope the young people in lake county will remember this brave man and benefit from his unselfish offer to keep them safe and free. Steven Murray EOCN 1970

THANK YOU!!!!!!! For your sacrifice, words do little to describe our sincere gratitude. However, There is a hope for a future where such wonderful people will not have to die in the wars of the world. ISAIAH 2:4 And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore....REV 21:3,4-"death will be no more"
