My 2 year goal is to survive deployment and be an upstanding Marine. My 5 year goal is to have a Masters Degree. My 10 year goal is to be a billionaire and live forever.
— Jacob Toves, on his MySpace page
Toves and his childhood best friend, Lance Padilla, two met as 5-year-olds while attending their local Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall. They surfed and built giant sandcastles no wave could touch. As they got older, they rode skateboards on the streets and snowboards on the slopes. "Anything with a board," Toves would say of his hobbies.

My last memory of Jacob was when he graduated from bootcamp, came home, and I gave him a big hug and told him I was proud of him. I'll miss you Jacob, you were a great guy! xoxo
I am in the same platoon as Lance Corporal Toves. This man was not only a good Marine...but also a good person. He would always help any one out, no matter what it was. Of course that person would here him bitching all along the way :) . Your brothers miss you Toves... RIP
Your Marines miss you more and more everyday Bro. You welcomed me in the first day and I will never forget how quick you were to help others out. The laughs and all our good times we shared throughout our time in Afghanistan will always be remembered. You will always be close in my heart. We miss you a lot and you will live on through us. RIP "Grandpa"
Although never meeting Jacob I had the honor of sponsoring him and the Marines of the 3RD CEB. As stated above from my Nephew LCPL Kyle and Jacob's Marine Brothers, his concern and care for all others did make a difference in many peoples lives. A True Patriot, Proud Warrior and Dear Friend.
Today and forever we live as free men in Jacob's honor!
For such countrymen like Toves who died while having their country and people at heart, even if they die, they will never be forgotten in the history of their country. As i was looking into the whole list of departed service men and women, what struck me was that majority of them happen to be at a younger age when they join service and so they die when still young. This shows that the young and energyetic leave early and this is very hurting to us who read and listen to news because these are a nation of tommorrow. However, age does not matter much for a person who loves his country. May God rest all your souls in eternal peace.
The price of freedom has always been paid with the shed of blood..,thanks Lcpl. Toves for helping to ensure a safer and stronger America. As a combat engineer of Desert Storm and Somalia, I know how it is to loose a fellow engineer, I pray that you have found peace at the end of your short 27yr journey.
YOUR BROTHERS IN 3RD CEB WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. ALL THE GOOD AND THE BAD TIMES WE ALL HAD TOGETHER. NO MATTER GOOD OR BAD WE ALL STOOD TOGETHER. MY ONLY WISH IS THAT WE WERE IN AFGHANISTAN WHITH YOU GUYS. R.I.P. LCPL TOVES
The last time I saw Jacob was at a BBQ we had about a month or so before they deployed. He was riding around on his skateboard acting silly as usual. He was always full of life and loved to make people smile. He had a contagious laugh. I feel unfortunate that I didn't get a chance to know him better. He was a good man, friend and marine. My heart goes out to his family. Everyone that was fortunate enough to know him will miss him dearly. R.I.P Jacob...you will never be forgotten.
Thank you Lcpl Toves-may god shine upon your soul and give you everlasting peace. My son is also a Lcpl in Afganistan and I know he will miss you also even though he dident know you. Semper Fi

Jacob was not only my cousin, but like a big brother to me. All of these comments accurately reflect his personality. Our family truly misses him and it is nice to hear he formed another family in the military. Rest In Peace cousin.
