I am saddened by his death, but I am very proud that he died doing what he loved doing.
    — Rebecca Mizener, mother

Mizener died minutes after last talking to his wife, Nicole, when mortar rounds hit his base. Nicole was pregnant when they met while volunteering at banquets for veterans and the homeless. He adopted her child and they had two more.

One memory of Jesse D. Mizener

Jesse was my daughter's best friend's brother and her first "crush" at the age of 13 when Jesse passed away. She is now 19 years old and serving in the United States Air Force. She says this is her way of honoring Jesse's memory.
God bless you Jesse and your family.
