Arroyave was born in Colombia and moved to California as a child. His wife was pregnant with their third child when he was killed. He planned to serve in the Marines for 20 years.

Two memories of Jimmy J. Arroyave
SSgt Arroyabe was on his way to a life of accomplishments for his country, his family and himself...in that order. I remember talking to him as a Corporal in Camp Pendleton(MWSS372), he was a headstrong young man; we talked about his service to the Marine Corps and how he would benefit it by staying in. I will always remember him. God Bless you and your family.
