He was the only person who could make me smile. He would always say 'Sharri don’t worry. Whatever it is, it will work itself out.’
— Sharri Regalado, wife
Regalado was one of two soldiers killed in Mosul, Iraq, when an Iraqi Army soldier wearing a uniform approached the men and opened fire. He had carried his daughter’s ultrasound throughout his deployment as a good luck charm. After Jaimie was born, his wife sometimes wore his cologne so that the infant would recognize her father when they finally met.

Dear Jose im sorry that today i got the bad news. today 14 dec I learned that my best friend while I was in Fort Knox, KY has passed. I learned that he was shoot by an Iraqi in uniform. I can still see him in his house working on his car always doing something on that car. Also I remember that he helped me cut a tree in a friends house I have a lot of memories of him and when Sharri told me that he was killed is like my heart stopped for a second it hurt so much. Me an him got a lot of memories working I remember him working in the arms room and he will ask me if i was in my office and we will work together do something. He was my best friend and I will remember him for ever. I'm still shocked by his death.
Brother rest in peace.

Jose and I attended the same school, we played on the same Football team, we shared the same friends, we participated in the school ROTC, we graduated on the same day, we joined the same Army, we trained for the U.S Cavalry, we attended and graduated from Fort Knox, we were stationed at Fort Polk, we were assigned to the 2nd Armor Cavalry Regiment, we deployed to Iraq at the same time, and yet I only knew him from recognition. I found out today that a fellow Sergeant and brother-in-arms has passed, I wish that I would of taken the time to get to know him a little better, my thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family, I just returned from the deployment that we both embarked on and it is a horrible realization that one of my fellow Cavalry Troopers did not make it home. You made the ultimate sacrifice for your country brother, Rest In Peace.

I learned today that Sgt. Jose Regalado, a young man I had the priviledge of watching grow up along with his siblings, had passed on Nov 12, 2oo8. Jose grew up in the house next door to my parents, and his parents are still there. While I was at my dad's home today, I was approached by his beautiful mother Raquel as she tearfully told me of the loss.
As a child, Jose was incredible, he was always there to help his parents with chores around the house, and even had time to visit with a lonely senior, making sure he was ok. The Senior was my dad, and my father was very proud of him. Before my dad's death in 96', he kept me posted of how the kids were doing, especially Jose.
To the Regalado family, my heartfelt prayers are with you. Know, that you have a very special Angel with you Always. God Bless and Keep You in the Palm of his hand.

It is hard to captivate that such a young man lost his life in battle. I went to school with Jose's sisters; Wendy and Haydee. My memories of Jose are as a child, he was a very courteous, nice kid who illuminated others with his big bright smile. I pray that your family, wife and baby girl have the strength to carry on through these very difficult time.

I didnt realize what i was looking at today until I saw Sgt Regalado's picture appear. I was shocked!!! I was a recruiter for Wilson High from 2000-2004 I remember running into Jose countless times. I tried to persuade him to join the Corps like most of his friends did, he finally decided on the Army.He was happy and excited.I remember congratulating him. We all dont realize what our path in life is until it occurs. Jose loved the military and his family. One must remember that he served with Pride, Honor and Respect. Treasure the memories and moments that he provided to all that he touched. May his spirit live on forever. To the family, I am deeeply sorry for your lost. Semper Fi!!!
