I kind of treat them all like my sons. You get a bond, a friendship, a trust. When you lose one of your own, it hits you very hard. I had to go out walking for a couple of hours. I had to cool off.
— Sgt. David L. Morgan, commanding officer
Villanueva was almost killed in his first tour of Iraq when he was hit in the neck with shrapnel. According to Stars and Stripes, he was born in the Philippines and also served in Operation Desert Storm and in Kosovo.
