We love the U.S. Marines, but we all have a responsibility to stop sending young people to Iraq. It is too late for my son, but we can help others.
— Berto Figueroa, father, in the Santa Monica Mirror
Luis' mother begged him not to join the Marines, fearing it was too dangerous, the Santa Monica Mirror reported. But Luis was so determined that he got his GED and lost 30 lbs. to qualify.

I feel so bad that your son sacrificed his life for a senseless war. Bush wouldn't want his brother's son/s sacrificed for oil. I'm sooo very sorry. May your son always live in your hearts. Thank you.

I was in the military for 5 years from 2000-2005. Although I consider myself extremely fortunate to be with my family after I left the military. I appreciate the simplest things in life and I realize that I have nothing personally to complain about. I will never forget those who lost their lives fighting, and I shed tears for the parents who lost their beautiful sons and daughters in war. Parents, you are not forgotten, I think about you and I know you have my blessings. GOD BLESS YOU MOMS AND DADS.

I'm so sorry about your loss. Your story seriously brought me to tears because it is all about the hope to stop sending young children out to war to lose their lives.

May God comfort you for your loss, in his heart, he would not have been anything other than the proud and brave marine he was.
